Fiction can sometimes lead to reality

Occasionally a fiction can become reality, literally. Neighbors of an Amsterdam squat, briefly misled that the squat was being officially recognized, then helped to save it.

But even when the effect isn't quite that immediate, fictions can highlight and change our views of reality, and thus help to change it. Beautiful Trouble calls them "prefigurative interventions."
