Notes:
Just to illustrate the degree to which people identify violence with the current environment in a way that may not reflect historical development, here are some figures from a study undertaken by Hill & Knowlton of perceptions of violence by a sample of U
imaginary--what people imagine to be the violence in each period
considered--what people, upon further reflection, consider it to be
actual--real, measurable violence--person-to-person violence resulting in death
each one... discrepancy; imaginary and considered never keep pace with actual rises or decreases--so there will continue to be a lot of irrationality
Now you'd think this weight of emotion over reality would put us in a tough position.
