At the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, National Rifle Association spokesperson Hensley Cocker proudly unveiled Share the Safety, a “buy one, give one” program designed to get guns into the hands of under-armed Americans—from homosexuals to the elderly to besieged urban communities. For every gun sold through the revolutionary online portal at www.ShareTheSafety.org, the NRA, with the generous support of Smith & Wesson, will donate a gun to someone who cannot afford one.

Despite an interruption by a Code Pink protester, the press conference and simultaneous press release garnered a great deal of attention. See some of the coverage in Buzzfeed, NY Daily News, Hyperallergic, and Chicago Mag. (Press page coming soon!)

The real NRA disavowed Share the Safety and encouraged members to warn others of this tasteless hoax. While attempting to have the website removed, they took another 38,000 sites offline, news of which went viral and shared the program with even wider audiences.
